At the close of BHM! (that's black history month in UK for those unaware)…

Surprisingly enough, people like Louis Farrakhan weren’t mentioned on MTV Base as they chose to focus on the same “British heroes” they do year in / out….

I dont mean to take a stab at the Trevor Nelsons, but there are alot of DJ’s out there and being the face of the Lick on MTV Base doesn’t make you my personal hero. We at time look at an upperclass neighbourhood and begin to praise the one black family living in there as though “wow – they made it”

Without coming off as a pro-black / racist, I believethat for us to eliminate the barrier we place in our own mind frame, we need to address what / who we consider to be “Successful” and why. Is it being / doing something alot of white people achieved, or setting personal goals and meeting them… or even making a difference for “your people” ?

I chose to look up to those that dont just sit back at their achievements for 10yrs and dwell in it, but those that keep pushing, keep speaking not for “Black” alone, but for the oppressed people in the world, the Powerless, Speechless, and Poor – either black, white, or grey (gray).

Some people said “black history month” should be everymonth of the year – I say we get rid of it and redefine “HISTORY” – let it cover all aspects of human history, from the Orient to the Western world, to the Aztecs, Africans…etc

That is how we will get rid of descrimination, ignorance and increase awareness for opportunities for equality – Not focusing on one particular “Minority” for a month.
