Onthebuzz has been in sleep & hibernation for some days on other affairs duty, but here to re-continue the blog/post malarkey.
Assembled in 2008, with this jazzy hip hop collective I can only see the rise up the ladder and big things in future hopefully, Sound of Rum (rapper Kate Tempest, guitarist/bassist/loop-pedalist Archie Marsh and drummer Ferry Lawrenson) are an act from South East London that reminded me somewhat of two fine emcees in Speech Debelle, Melissa Czarnik, maybe because of Kate Tempest laid back flow a similarity maybe? Either way I was feeling and liking the track “Icarus” of their début long player “Balance“.
What’s liked about Sound of Rum is their potent message over loungy, jazzy instrumental beats to thinkchill to. Enough, lets tuck in and have a sip of the Sound of Rum with the Greek mythical and metaphorical son of Daedalus “Icarus”, a quality number to open your ears to with this stop animation video by Berkavitch. Have a butchers and let it be known.
